The book you have in your hands is a fascinating journey through the milestones that have marked the history of fashion illustration. It begins with Renaissance engravings, the first tool to graphically represent clothing, continues with the fashion plates from newspapers and magazines that had so much influence in the 18th and 19th centuries, and ends with a tour of the names that, throughout the 20th, elevated this discipline to the category of art: George Barbier, Georges Lepape, René Gruau, Kenneth Paul Block, Antonio Lopez and Tony Viramontes, among many others.
The second part of Sketching Fashion invites us to learn about the careers of 21 contemporary artists: Cecilia Carlstedt, David Downton, Malika Favre, Jordi Labanda, Gladys Perint Palmer... Through their techniques, work processes and influences you will understand the richness and diversity of current fashion illustration.
